Slow-Cooker Smoky Snack Mix

Give a surprising--and pleasing--new taste to traditional nuts-and-cereal snack mix with a few drops of liquid smoke.

cups Corn Chex® Cereal
cups whole almonds
(10 to 12-oz.) pkg. oyster crackers
(9.5 to 10-oz.) pkg. bite-sized cheese crackers
cup butter or margarine, melted
tablespoons liquid smoke
tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
teaspoon seasoned salt
  1. In 6-quart slow cooker, combine cereal, almonds, oyster crackers and cheese crackers. In small bowl, combine all remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture; toss to coat.
  2. Cook, uncovered, on High setting for 2 1/2 hours, stirring thoroughly every 30 minutes.
  3. To serve warm, unplug slow cooker. Serve with large spoon.

Liquid smoke is natural smoke flavor captured in water sprayed over burning mesquite or hickory wood. The smoky-flavored water is purified and seasoned with a bit of molasses and vinegar before it is bottled. Look for it near the condiments (mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce) in the grocery store.

This snack mix tastes just as good at room temperature as it does warm; prepare the recipe in advance and let it cool completely. Seal the mix in an airtight container for up to three days.
