EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

Because tapioca is one of the few thickeners that does not break down during long, slow cooking, it can be added at the beginning of the cooking time. Thickeners such as flour and cornstarch are best added at the end of the cooking time.

For food safety reasons, recipes made in the slow cooker need to reach a safe cooking temperature (140°F) within 3 hours. That's why it isn't a good idea to assemble the ingredients and refrigerate them or use frozen ingredients.

I really liked this stew. I have only made a few different types of stew in my crockpot and this is by far the best one. I did however add corn and green beans (frozen) to the recipe and I add some water about a cup and I think I would double that the next time. I also didn't peel the potatoe's and it was still good. I then adding more beef buoillion to it to adjust for the water... Serve it with a great loaf of your favorite bread and it hits the spot.... Love Love Love it!!!
