Ingredients

tablespoon vegetable oil

boneless skinless chicken thighs (about 1 1/2 lb)*, trimmed of excess fat, cut into 1-inch pieces

medium carrots, sliced diagonally (1 cup)
2
medium stalks celery, coarsely chopped (1 cup)
1
medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
2
cloves garlic, finely chopped
1
can (8 oz) sliced water chestnuts, drained
1
cup chicken broth
2
tablespoons soy sauce
1/2
teaspoon finely chopped gingerroot
2
tablespoons cornstarch
3
tablespoons cold water
1
cup sliced fresh mushrooms (3 oz)
1
cup snow pea pods (4 oz)
Chow mein noodles, if desired

  • 1 In 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Cook chicken in oil about 5 minutes, turning once, until brown.
  • 2 Spray 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In slow cooker, place carrots, celery, onion, garlic and water chestnuts; top with chicken. In small bowl, mix broth, soy sauce and gingerroot; pour over chicken. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours.
  • 3 In small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into chicken mixture. Stir in mushrooms and pea pods. Increase heat setting to High. Cover; cook 15 minutes longer. Serve over noodles.

This recipe was terrible! Shame on you Betty Crocker. I prepared this recipe for my husband and son and was so embarrassed after serving it! It was bland and looked unappealing. I followed the recipe to the letter (and even tried to save it by 'doctoring' it ... but quickly tossed it in the disposal. Such a waste of effort and chicken! Obviously this was not a 'tested' recipe. Doubtful that I will trust BC website for future recipes.

This was DELICIOUS!! .....BUT...I doubled everything and marinated the cut up chicken in oyster sauce, garlic and ginger,then added more garlic,ginger and onion to the oil when cooking the chicken. The rest was pretty much the same as the recipe. EXCELLENT!!

This was the blandest thing ever made. I even added way more spice than the recipie dictated. My husband couldn't finish eating it, and we did not save the leftovers. First time I've disliked a recipie from this site that much.
