This is a very delicious dish and a favorite of mine & my husband. I have found that an Amber Bock beer yields the best flavor. I also only use 3-4 onions depending on the size of the roast. I thicken the juices with cornstarch and it makes a rich gravy. Absolutely one of the best recipes on this site!!!

I love this recipe .... one of the first things i ever made in my slow cooker. Just made it again today .. however i like to use only 3 or 4 onions on the bottom and then put baby carrots and cut up potatoes around the beef! !! Yum yum yum.

Sounded better than it was. Meat was tender but lacked flavor.

I was very disappointed in this recipe. It sounded so good and I have a good eye for recipes. As someone else said, the onions never caramelized and the juice was very thin and needed to be thickened. It's certainly not a recipe you would taste and go "oh wow". I won't be making it again.

Delish, I used all the onions and am glad I did. There were enough onions left over to serve with the beef for leftovers. Will actually use more onions next time!! Loved the extra bite the mustard added!

It was good, but not great. I agree with other viewers that there were way too many onions - and they never really carmelized. When I served it as leftovers I thickened the gravy with Bisto and it was better. If I make again, I will also lightly brown the onions in the pan after I've browned the meat. And I agree with the other reviewer - you could make an awesome onion soup with the extra onions.

This was so good my whole family loved it. I agree there was WAY too many onions, half that amount would still have been plenty, ended up throwing away most of them. Will definetly make this again.

This was pretty good. Way too many onions and I only used 4-5. I did make gravy as suggested. I also added the rest of the unused beef broth from the recipe and made the rest into french onion soup. The beef was so tender and I liked the flavor of the beer in this recipe. Not sure if I will make it again or just stick to regular pot roast.

Did exactly as told, the only difference I used brisket instead of pot roast. Bland, bland bland. I like my food well seasoned (not spicy), but this recipe lacks flavor. Was left on the refrigerator for many days until I decided to throw it away, what a waste. NOT doing it again

Couldn't fit the amount of onions this calls for in the crockpot, but it was still amazing! This recipe is definately a keeper!
