A heady blend of simple seasonings work their magic on pork in this slow-cooked filling for hot sandwiches.
boneless pork roast (3 lb), trimmed of fat, cut into thin strips
cup chopped onion (1 large)
cup packed brown sugar
teaspoons ground mustard
teaspoon garlic powder
teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
sandwich buns, split
In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, mix all ingredients except buns.
Cover; cook on Low heat setting 6 to 8 hours.
Spoon about 1/3 cup pork mixture into each bun.
Pack any leftover pork mixture in a plastic freezer container and freeze for a day when you don't have a lot of time to prepare a meal. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or in the microwave in a microwavable dish. Serve on garlic toast or Texas toast.
