I was so proud of the first batch of these self rising biscuits. they were light and had good texture. i worked the shortening into the flour with my hands instead of a pastry cutter, faster and easier. i baked them in a heated iron skillet oiled with bacon drippings. you talk about delicious they were a hit.

These biscuits are great, fast and easy. I did find that if you cut them with out twisting the cutter you will get a better rise. By twisting it seals the edges and makes a shorter biscuit.

I followed the directions on the Gold Medal Self-rising flour bag to a T and mine didn't rise. Can someone help me out here? What did I do wrong.

turned out great for me down here on the Oklahoma Texas Border, I opted on adding half the shortening needed and the rest butter and they were amazing.

Biscuits were fabulous! I did make some changes and took shortcuts. I made the buttermilk variation as I found myself with an abundance of leftover buttermilk from another recipe. Used butter instead of shortening and used the food processor to cut it in. Used a cup plus a tablespoon of buttermilk and instead of rolling the dough, I dropped the biscuits using a large ice cream scoop (so much easier and faster) Next time, I'll add dried herbs, dried onion or finely grated cheese - they made the perfect partner to homemade stew.

These biscuits were very plain and tasteless. They were very dense and did not rise. They were disappointing.
