Made this yesterday for supper and all I can say is.......YUMMY!!!! Turned out perfect and delicious!!! I did brown the beef first, worth the extra few minutes.

Made the savory beef stew last week. I didn't change anything liked it as it was posted. It has been a long time since we have had good old beef stew.

You need to list the quantity of a serving - is it a cup? 1/2 cup WHAT?

I made this beef stew last weekend. Instead of using 2 cups of water, I used beef broth and very glad I did as without it there would not be much flavor to it. The color of the juices were nearly clear when finished cooking. It tasted okay, not as flavorful as I am use to in stew broth but it was okay. I may not make it again for a very long time. I'd like a richer tasting broth and more browness in color for my beef stew.

This is the kind of stew my mother made when we were little. Except she added peas and corn to make it stretch for a family of 8 and to get veggies in us. I still cook it this way but without all the water so it's not runny. Great for those cold winter evenings.

When i made this the first time it lacked flavor. was very bland even after i added wine. I thought i would make it again but instead of water, i added 2 cans of swansons beef broth, added 2-3 cloves of garlic, mushrooms and thyme. Made a big difference with the flavoring. I too used 2 cans of diced tomatoes instead of stewed and I cube my meat and potatoes.

Great, easy recipe. Used 1 can diced tomatoes and 1 small can tomato sauce instead of the can of stewed tomatoes because I didn't have them. I'll do the same when I make this recipe. It was so good!
