Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. In medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar and salt. Cut in 1/2 cup butter, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until evenly mixed. Press evenly in bottom of ungreased rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches. Bake 15 minutes; cool slightly.
  • 2 Cut up any large nuts. Sprinkle nuts evenly over crust. In 1-quart saucepan, heat all remaining ingredients over low heat, stirring occasionally, just until chips are melted. Drizzle butterscotch mixture evenly over nuts. Bake 5 minutes. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 4 rows while warm for easiest cutting.

I've made these many times. Everyone loves them and in fact, have nicknamed them "Oh My God!" Bars. Every time someone takes a bite they say "Oh My God!!" I've switched up the butterscotch chips for chocolate and caramel as well and the crusts with graham cracker or chocolate graham. I've also drizzled white and or chocolate over the top and they are all excellent! These bars are truly delicious.

These bars are a hit! Made them for Father's Day cookout and my friend's mom said they were "The best thing she has ever tasted." I used macadamia nuts and baked on a parchment paper lined 15" x 10" x 1" pan. Used a plastic knife to free the edges and when cool, lifted them out under the paper onto a cutting board. Now our neighbor wants the recipe.

These have always been a hit. I've thought about drizzling them with melted chocolate to make them extra special. If they are too hard to cut just warm in the oven for a few minutes.
