Don't use the cans of frosting for this cake... i had crumbs everywhere (even though I chilled it beforehand). But, it tasted great!!

Made this cake for my nephews 8th birthday party. It came out AWESOME and tasted great too. Used Pineapple cake, colored frosting blue for the sail and used peeled red vines to form the number 8. So many variations for decorating (boy or girl). My family and I had sooooo... much fun making this cake. Everyone loved it. Will make again.

The minute I saw this recipe, I fell in love with it. I love how you even gave us a diagram for cutting the cake! I went out and bought the pyrex cake pan just for this recipe. Everything worked out great except for the icing. I looked all over for your icing mix- -it just couldn''t be found. So I used your icing that comes in cans. It was extremely difficult to get the icing on so the sailboat could look halfway decent. It took me 1/2 hour just on one of the stripes on the sail!! It never did come out looking good, though the people at the party did love it anyway. Maybe the icing mix would have been easier to work with. If so, I would update the recipe to emphasize that people MUST use the icing mix, no substitutions, not even Betty Crocker substitutions. If I had known, I would have taken the extra time to search your site and elsewhere on the internet to find your icing mix.
