I was looking for an easy yet impressive version of a red velvet cake for a friend's birthday party and this absolutley fit the bill. There were a few things I was leery about, it being my first time trying this recipe (i.e. using German Chocolate mix, the entire bottle of coloring, and the texture the white chocolate would make the frosting), but my fears were totally put at bay when I had EVERYONE who tried the cake tell me it was the best cake they had eaten (literally, everyone LOVED it). I followed the recipe to the letter, and all was good in the world. I highly recommend for an impressive yet simple cake!

I made this cake, yesterday. I cut the cake into four layers, as suggested, but the layers were too small. It also cracked as I was frosting it and my cake was cool. I would also suggest adding more cocoa. It was noting special, at all. I would suggest making it in three pans, instead. The frosting was fixed by adding one fourth cup of unsalted butter and one fourth teaspoon of salt. It was delicious and not too sweet. It tasted alright, but it was not good enough for a Birthday Cake. I thought Betty Crocker had Test Kitchens for this sort of thing?

This cake was one of the best i ever made. Definitely a new favorite. Kind of fell apart when frosting it though so make sure you let the cakes and frosting cool enough.

To: Doodah You can buy a cake leveler at almost any store like Walmart, then for the frosting in between its easier to pipe the frosting drawing circles or spiraling towards the center of the layer, dont start too close to the border or else your frosting will flood over the layer. The cake itself is delicious but perhaps its better when its served in small one bite sizes that can be paired along with mini pastries.

I baked this cake for Christmas and I thought it was delicious. Unfortunately, my husband felt like the cake tasted like a pound cake with red food coloring. I don't think I will be baking this cake again.

I followed the directions for the cake but it didn't rise very much, had a crack in the center. I was so afraid of the directions for the frosting to put white choc chips in microwave for FOUR TO FIVE MINUTES even at half power. I tried that but it burned black and started smoking in half the time! Luckily I just threw that part of the choc chips away and luckily had more in the bag! I tossed out the first attempt and just melted the remaining white choc chips over a double boiler and that was much better. This cake is very rich but my husband loved it for his Christmas birthday.

I made this for a Memorial Day party that I went to. It turned out great except one of my layers started to crumble and took the rest of the cake down with it. But it worked out because I ended up frosting the whole thing (to keep it together) and you couldn't tell one of the layers broke. Also, I used one vanilla frosting and one cream cheese frosting...it was AMAZING! Everyone went back for seconds and I didn't have any to take home with me. Definitely making this again but I don't know if I'll cut it into 4 layers, maybe just keep it 2 and frost it.
