These cookies hold well and will stay soft for a few days. I would suggest making them the day before and after they cool put them in a zip lock bag to hold at room temp. Frost them the night before or the morning you are going to serve them- bet the kids could do for you.

I want to make these for Christmas should I make the day of ... or is the day before still ok to keep 'soft"..... dont want a hard cookie... and are they best room temp or refrigerated... that would be my tendency as I like cream cheese frosting chilled like on my carrot cake... thx!

I have to make multiple batches of these for Christmas every year as they are a family favorite, my husband in particular raves on them. So simple too, which I love. :)

I made these for Christmas Eve and they were a big hit. Also left off the nuts and got many raves. Tasted even better after they had been refrigerated a while. Will definitely make again.

What a moist and delicious cookie! I used a small batter scoop instead of rolling the dough into balls. I think it made the recipe easier. I left off the nuts. These were such a hit!

Yup, these were good. But they really just tasted like a brownie with cream cheese icing. However, I must be honest, I accidentally forgot sour cream on my shopping list. So I used cream cheese instead. The mix was too dry with just that, so I added some milk. I used a small ice cream scooper to place on the pan because I didn't want the dye all over my hands. I always bake at a lower temp than what Betty recommends. I baked at 350 for 10-11 minutes. Perfect! I also used Green food coloring to make Green Velvet Cookies to go with my Strawberry Cream Cheese Trifle. It made a xmas holiday treat!
