I just made this cake for my Dad's birthday. It was really easy! However I give it 4 spoons, because it recomends only 1 package of cake/ icing. The next time I make this cake I will use 2, just so the cake/cupcakes are bigger. Also I used shocktarts for the candy. The icing/food coloring I used is Hannah Montana. The cake did not turn out as well as the pic, but it still looks super cute(IMO). My mom said it reminds her of a Dr. Suess cake. hah.

This cake was so adorable and easy to make! I made it for my daughter's birthdays and they loved it! It was extremely easy to make and very colorful. I varied the icing colors, my daughter's favorite colors are pink and purple. It was delicious and a huge hit!

Much as I like the idea of baking, I generally don't have the time or the wherewithal to actually do it. Usually, I get my kids birthday cakes from the supermarket or ice cream store. Then I saw this cake and was inspired and this past year I made it for two birthdays. It was great. So easy to make, no problems at all. Worked just as described in the recipe. And it looked just as good too. And, it's GOT CANDY ON IT! What more could a kid want. And, being that there are cupcakes involved, it's real easy to serve too! Will absolutely be making this again.

Everytime i bake a cake i use butter instead of oil, that way theres more cake batter to use and the cake comes out very moist...

I absolutely loved the way this cake looked and after reading the reviews couldn't wait for an occasion to make it! However, I didn't have near enough cake batter or icing to make it look as lovely as the picture. My cake was very thin and my cupacakes (it calls for 12) only filled half the baking cups AFTER they were baked. I continued anyway, just to have something for my kids to see when they got home. I ran out of icing, even when frosting my tiny, thin little cake piece.... and my cupcakes that were half-filled. I was using mininmal icing too. This cake would probably work well, but I suggest using two boxes of cake mix and two icing containers and just dealing with the left overs. Otherwise, I don't see how anyone will get a cake as large and fluffy as the picture. Cute idea, poor instructions. I will be trying this one again, with the extra ingredients.

I made this cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday and it was a hit! Minimal effort with major impact. I saved a little frosting for the cake itself, for upon disassembly, the cupcakes take a significant amount of frosting off the base layer. Wouldn't want anyone to feel cheated :)

This is a very easy, tasty, and adorable cake idea. I couldn't believe how easy this was to make, I will have the ingredients stocked in the pantry for whenever there is an occasion to have a cake.

I love this idea, but it should come with a warning to use toothpicks to keep the cupcakes from sliding around! I'll try creamy frosting instead of fluffy next time- that might help keep them from sliding... Otherwise, it's an awesome idea and a bit hit!

I loved this idea/recipe. It was easy. For the candies I used jelly beans. I didn't stack them but just put them in circles on a plate for the little ones to pick out of. I did make the green round cake though. It was a hit! I decorated it with gel icing to say "Happy First Bithday Evan". Every one loved it! It turned out so moist and people thought that I bought it from a bakery. It was a good feeling as a first time mom to give her son such a wonderful 1st birthday.....
