This cake was sooo yummy! I made it for my sons 6th b-day, & now everyone wants it for theirs too. I used homemade whipped cream instead of cool whip or frosting though, just a personal preference. Also, I used the vanilla cake mix, to help bring out the milk flavors, & I think it went well together! Another little trick I did, I made it in a square pan vs the rectangle, & cut it in 2 pieces, for a layered effect, I thought it made it look more professional, but either way its a delish cake! Also, that person who bashed the mixes, yeah, why would you buy, bake & eat this cake if it soooo goes against all you believe in?! & then you insult people by saying your either too poor to know what quality is or too dumb? Well I'm neither & I think your a SAD(in your own words) person for getting all political about cake! come on! Like with an attitude like that you may have actually made a difference in re-electing Bush! So make a REAL difference in the world & get out there & do something for man kind instead of complaining about cake!

I finally realized I need to stop reading reviews.I usually end up laughing or shaking my head in disbelief.sricart: If you dont like pkgd mixes why on earth did you buy one?If you knew you would not like it why did you bother buying it, making it, or eating it? If you did not like the recipe why not just throw it out and find a new one to complain about? Do you really think I will take nutritional advice from you on a betty crocker website including your opinions on americans eating habits? No offense but that is what a nutritionist is for and your comments do not sound like they have 4 years of college behind them.

On another note, today's bakers grew up on boxed cakes so they don't know any better. Actually, most American's don't what high quality, fresh, really good food tastes like because most can't afford it or simply don't have the time or know how to prepare it. It is sad.

What a sad note for America's palate! This tasted sooo processed it was gross. I always bake my cakes from scratch and now I completely understand why! One baker used Cool Whip for icing? That makes me sick. Keep on ingesting chemicals America and wonder why the rate of cancer and diabetes is soaring! The French have it, natural and much less refined sugar. When you're not used to processed foods this is just plain bad. In the trash can this goes!

Decided to try this cake for a BBQ last week. Should have made two cakes. Made it in the morning and left it in the fridge until serving after dinner. Spread cool whip on top and served sliced strawberries on the side. YUMMMMMMMMMMY!!!!!!!!

This was great! I poured half of the 3 milks mixture over the whole cake and saved the rest to pour over each individual slice that I cut. This way you can really taste the sweet milk and each slice is fresh and moist.

Thia was the best tes leches cake I have ever had, I substituted canned milk for the whole milk, more authentic. I shared it with friends and everyone loved it. I have had professional made tres leche cake not as good as this one. YUM

I made this cake for Cinco de Mayo, and it was fantastic! I do agree it needs at least overnight to soak up the milk, but it was wonderful. I used Cool Whip instead of frosting and am glad I did. It tastes very much like a flan or vanilla custard, but the texture is of course more like cake. YUM! Whole family loved it. Will definitely make again!

Made this cake for work...it was a huge hit! The corners were a bit soggy, but not inedible. The rest of the cake was firm and wonderful. Several people asked for the recipe. This will now become a cinco de mayo tradition!

Been trying to find a good tres leches recipe, and this one is definitely it. I haven't tried it with the frosting, but do use cool whip (fat free) instead. I cut some mangoes to throw on top of it, and it is absolutely delicious. would advise making it a couple of days before company comes because the cake soaks up the milk and is quite delicious.

I've made this using coconut milk instead of heavy cream. I also used cool whip for the icing. This is so rich but so tasty.

Tres Leches is one of my favorite cakes. But this one has two problems - 1. it's not a sponge cake, so it's different than a traditional Tres Leches (the cake itself ends up much heavier when the milk is absorbed). 2. it needs a meringue icing! I made this and replaced the store bought icing with a homemade meringue icing instead. It was amazing! Hubby loved it, but requested the traditional sponge cake for next time.

My husband is from Mexico, so I figured I would surprise him with this cake becuase he doesn't get to eat this kind of cake too often. He loved it and couldn't believe I made it. I frosted it with cool whip and fresh strawberries instead of using frosting. I loved this recipe because it was so easy and delicious.

I am asked for the recipe everywher I take this wonderful cake. The key to having the cake absorb the milk is the fork holes in the top, and pouring the milk slowly over the holes so it can be absorbed. When I cut the cake the pan is moist but there are no puddles. I use whipped topping instead of frosting.
