This is a wonderful cake. easy to make. my step father can't eat nuts. So we chopped and added fresh cranberries. IT WAS A Hit!! He has had my mom to make it for him on a regular bases. You can also use dried cranberries. Just as good.

This cake is delicious. The only change I made was I added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the dry mix. Great recipe and enjoyed by all.

I thought this cake was just ok. The vegetable oil was overpowering in flavor. I saw one person substituted only 1/2 C. of applesauce but still used a cup of oil. I think I may try using all applesauce next time. That might also help with the toughness of the outside I expierience.

This cake is a keeper for sure!I replaced the regular flour with white whole wheat to add some nutrients. I also cut the oil to 1C. and added 1/2 Cup applesauce. Still came out moist. Left my apples in bit size pieces vs. finely chopped. I used my most favorite, Empire. The carmel sauce is excellent and comes together quickly. I had debated buying a jar of carmel ice cream topping instead, but glad I didn't. It looks pretty over the entire cake but I knew I would have leftovers so just drizzled it on each slice as I cut it. This cake would be great with some vanilla bean ice cream on the side! I have a chunck in the freezer and am hoping it freezes well. Will make it again and that says a lot for me. I am "kitchen challenged" to put it nicely!

The best apple cake ever! I will no longer use my other apple cake recipes, this is the only one I'll use. My whole family loved it, I've bake it twice now,it was gone in a day, and they keep asking me to make it again.

This recipe was originally published in the Gold Medal Fall Baking recipe book (2000, I think). I've saved that recipe book all this time! I've made this recipe MANY times - with great results. It's better to make the caramel glaze that accompanies the recipe, rather than using a purchased one. Trust me, and don't peek at the calories per slice of cake. It's a bit time consuming, peeling and slicing the apples, chopping the nuts and then having to make the glaze, but it's well worth it!

This cake is delicious and the glaze is to die for! I've received so many requests from friends and family to make it again. Such a simple recipe with great flavor. This was the perfect recipe to use up some of my apples from my children's apple picking trips.

I made this cake for a work event and was a huge hit. Everyone loved the taste. Instead of the nuts in the cake, I sprinkled sliced almonds on top and I got complements on the presentation.Since I am a diabetic, I tried it with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup splenda, and it tasted just as good as the first time I made it with mostly sugar.

This cake was a huge hit! I made it for my husband's birthday and he loved it. It was very moist and the caramel wasn't overly sweet. I used granny smith apples and pecans. I will be making this cake again!

This cake is one of the simplest, most delicious crowd pleasers. It reminds everyone of the fall with the nuts, apples, and caramel. I am always asked for the recipe which I happily share. My coworkers make sure to ask for this cake when autumn is in the air.

The cake was delicious and moist, but I did think it was a little too sweet. In the future I wouldn't bother with the caramel glaze, and will probably cut the apple into larger 1/2" chunks for more of a bite.

This is one of my family's favorite cake. They love the super moist cake with the delicious caramel glaze. I take this cake to work and it is gone in seconds! I use this caramel glaze on other cakes also.
