I've been making these shortcakes since I was a teen. I always add 1/4 teaspoon of Almond extract to the dough. Makes it a bit richer, we love it.

The earliest desert I can recall as a little girl was this very recipe. Money was hard to come by and when strawberries were in season they were plentiful on the ground as they grew wild in the country, my Mama made a dinner out of strawberry shortcakes the size of a dinner plate, with home made whipped cream and as much strawberries and sweetened juice as we could fill our plates with. That was our entire dinner and nobody left the table hungry, nothing can compare !

well it was really good, but we put our own little twist on it (peaches) because i'm allergect to strawberries. And it was so convenient. my grand daughter was in love when she tasted it.

since member's reviews were all good, i decided to make this...me & my bf were dissappointed, because the Bisquick's buscuits were not only hard, compared with so-called, "SHORTCAKE", but also salty! After reading these reviews, they convinced me that i could make my bf happy but not...I will stick to Buscuits as the way it is, and will make STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE with the other recipes...

These have been a family favorite for years. My son even loves them plain as a snack. I've tried other recipes and always come back to these.

This is the recipe my mother ALWAYS used when making shortcake. Strawberry Shortcake just isn't Strawberry Shortcake without using this recipe. This is the recipe I've always used, too. We never used whipped topping or ice cream. My mother always made homemade whipped cream for this wonderful dessert.

These shortcakes are drier and denser than the sponge cake and pound cake younger members of my family are used to, but these remind me so much of the shortcakes my grandmother used to make that I always use this recipe! I tell the kids in my family we are having "olden day" shortcakes.

I have tried other recipes for shortcake but ALWAYS come back to this one. It is tried and true and not just with strawberries. It is great with all berries and peaches too.

I have been using Bisquick for many years as biscuits. That means I just love this recipe for shortcake. My whole family loves it. To me it should be made this way. It's easy, that is what counts, and it is delicious. I would recomend it for everybody. Its tradional.

I would give this recipe 6 spoons if I could! My Mother made Bisquick shortcake and I use it too. It's wonderful. I use milk instead of whipped topping or ice cream. The shortcake absorbs the milk and the juice from the strawberries,it's out of this world!

I found that any complaints about this recipe were by people who somehow thought that bisquick would end up like cake. Apparently those didnt know that tradtional shortcake is biscuit based and not cake. Those who like cake need to buy twinkies and have at it.I thought this recipe is good. Exactly what I expect for the ingredients added.

I'm 61 yrs old and have been eating these shortcakes with strawberries, peaches, apricots and blackberries since I was a tiny girl... I LOVE 'em. Those store-bought sponge cakes are awful!!

This was absolutely excellent! I never made anything other than dumplings with bisquick and this was my first time trying. I bought fresh strawberries and raspberries and wondered what to do with them. I thought I should check out this site and see what I could make and selected this receipe. I saved half the strawberries to slice and made syrup by adding sugar and a little water to the other half of the strawberries. Bought redi-whip instead of cool whip and that was it! I mixed the dough and kneeded it just a few times before placing in the oven. I split the biscuit/shortcake placed about 3 strawberries, redi-whip, 3 more strawberries, redi-whip and then poured the syrup I made and a splash of the raspberry as well. This was so sinful, I'm afraid it ruined my diet! Best receipe ever. And I forgot to add the salt to the dough but it didn't matter the butter had some salt. I will recommend this to everyone I know.

Wonderful! I am just starting/learning to cook, and these were simple and delicious. We just moved to Moscow, Russia and I was asked to bring something American to a Russian BBQ - I opted for these and they were a hit amoung our new friends. And of course the KIDS loved them, which is always a plus.

This was phenomenal! I am one of those who are "challenged" when it comes to cooking so when I saw how easy this was I wanted to try it. I am glad I did. I have never had real short cakes like this before and they were so delicious. I am hooked! These were easy, tasty & I could make it look like the picture! (Remember, I am not a skilled cook at all.) These were so FUN to make that I made some for 3 different neighbors. I cant wait to make them again. Thanks for putting a recipe out there that can make me feel like a great cook! Go Betty! Go Betty!

I think that the review by 'mamaof3' missed the point - these aren't supposed to be 'cakey' the way sponge cakes or cupcakes are 'cakey'. This is the classic recipe for strawberry shortcake that everyone knows from childhood. I think maybe this reviewer hadn't ever had proper strawberry shortcake and was expecting something different (like the way supermarkets call anything with sponge cake and strawberries, 'shortcake'). Maybe she should give it another chance someday - My mother and grandmother have been using this recipe for like 65 years! And try it with warm custard instead of the whipped cream, yum!!!

The strawberries are a no brainer, but the biscuit made the whole dish. My family really enjoyed it. Debbie Young
