These looked like the photo when I took them out of the oven, but fell like a pancake when they cooled. Hubby would not even try them. I thought they tasted good, but would need some pointers about what I did wrong before attempting them again.

These are amazing! My boyfriend's grandmother makes German Chocolate Cake from scratch, and she asked me for this recipe! I will certainly make these again. I love that the coconut is not as noticeable because I am not a fan of coconut.

Easy to prepare with great results. I took these to a dinner at church and everyone loved them. I had people asking for the recipe. Only change I made was to toast some pecans to add to frosting. Came out very good.

I love this recipe. I tried it back in October for a football potluck and have had so many positive responses every time since I have made them. It is so easy too. I do sprinkle pecans on top of the icing to make them even better. I also make a double batch and bake them in a half sheet pan (cookie sheet with sides.) I make a Cherry Almond version that is pretty tasty too. I use the butter yellow cake mix and add about a tsp of almond extract per recipe. Then I use white choc chips, cherry pie filling and sliced almonds as the toppers. Yummy!!!

I found this recipe terrible. Looked nothing like the picture and turned out a mushy mess. I thought follwed the recipe exactly and mine did not raise at all and I had to throw them out.

Great recipe - have made them several times for our school's bake sales and they always sell out. They are a bit sweet - you may want to use a devil's food or dark cake mix in place of German chocolate.

I don't know if I did something wrong. my bottom crust was too hard, I only cooked it for 8 min. The topping was bland tasting. If it is room temp, it is too crunchy. Better warm but too sweet for my taste.

This recipe is the best. I found it several years ago on a Betty Crocker cake mix box and have made it I don't know how many times since. I love the textures and rich flavor of these bars, and the little snap that the chocolate chips give them. Yum!

YUM! these are sooo easy & sooo delish! I tried it while it was still warm & it was so gooey, just melt in your mouth good. Only note for next time is to make sure you get at least half or more on the bottom for a good solid crust, mine was a little thin & the choc chips seeped through making it stick to the pan a little. I'll make these all the time!

We found the bars to be too sweet. (even with ice cream on top) I will make them again but may sub the chips for chopped pecan. Also, if not refrigerated the bars tend to get soft and sticky.

I made these bars for a picnic yesterday. I picked up the ingredients and made at the hostess' home. It was an easy do and the kids loved. They were looking forward to the few leftovers for a morning snack, but mom had other ideas! The only thing that I would recommend is bring them out of the refrigerator about 30 minutes before serving to allow for bottom crust to soften and bring flavors all together. Great job Betty!

I don't know what I could've done wrong. But it did not rise. It still had a nice texture and good flavor but I was not happy with the appearance.
