Spice cake with butterscotch pudding on top is awesome! Try pushing the spoon handle down to the bottom of pan and wriggling it side to side to enlarge the holes a bit.

I read other reviews and was worried about making the cake too soggy like other posts mentioned so I don't think I made my holes deep enough. There seemed to be more pudding on top of the cake than inside like someone else mentioned. I actually thought it needed more pudding on it. I made my pudding by beating it with a mixer to make it more like a mousse, and I let it sit for a minute to thicken it. Once I put it on top of the cake it spread like frosting on it. I really do like this idea but more as a filling instead. Next time, I think I will do the same thing, letting it sit before smoothing it on the cake, but using the pudding as a filling between 2 cakes and then frosting the top like normal with a butter-cream frosting. I love bannana filled chocolate cakes and they are so hard to find a bakery that makes these, so I have an idea to make banana pudding and use it as a filling in between the chocolate cakes, then topping it with a rich chocolate butter cream frosting!

For years my family has done the "Jello" Cake, which is a baked white cake with cherry jello poured into the holes made by a fork. I followed this pudding cake recipe as directed, but I was a little disappointed. I made holes with the wooden spoon, and thought that they were deep enough. I guess not, as their seemed to be more pudding on top of the cake than inside. I then added whipped cream on top. It's OK but I would prefer a regular chocolate cake with frosting.

WOW Chocolate, really sound great to me; BUT chocolate is a no no for my hubby, gives him headaches. So I used a White Cake mix and Cheesecake Pudding and regualr whip topping. Was a big hit.. he loved and I did too. I know I would have rather had the chocolate.. but would have take a while to eat a whole cake myself. I will try other combinations of cakes and puddings...

cake turned out awesome! was concerned after reading some reviews...but i had no problems. if u follow the directions and use a wooden spoon, the holes do not go deep enough to saturate the bottom and after the holes fill up the pudding makes a perfect topping...i spread the pudding out and it made a smooth topping with no holes showing.

I thought I was the only one to make a cake like this! I was reading some of the other reviews and thought I'd give a few options. I use the BC triple choc fudge chip cake mix. (super moist!) When I poke my holes in the cake, I use a fork. The holes are smaller so not sooo much pudding soaks in to make the bottom nasty. I let my pudding set for about 30 sec to a minute befor pouring it on that way it makes a thicker more 'mousse-like' consistency on top. (I use instant choc) I refrigerate for 1 hour then top with choc cool whip! It tastes AWESOME!!!! Nothing but rave reviews. If you can't find the choc cool whip, you can make it by buying an extra lil box of choc pudding, making it, letting it set a couple of mins, then mixing that in with reg cool whip. I've never had any complaints with this one. Hope this helps anyone out there that loves choc as much as me. ENJOY!!!!

expected a lot more. just choc cake. maybe if the topping was more a ganache-type it would improve the end result. disappointed.

Great chocolate cake recipe! Very moist and delicious-- especially if you're a big pudding fan. I used dark chocolate cake mix and dark chocolate pudding mix and it came out wonderfully!

I was not that impressed with this cake. The the top half of the cake was very good not dry at all. However the botton was very wet and soggy. I only used half of the pudding/milk mixture and it was still too wet for my taste.

This wasn't the best chocolate cake I've had. Easy to make but not the best tasting. I won't be making this one again.

I wasn't a huge fan of this recipe, but everyone else was crazy about it. Plus, very very easy to make.
