I found this rather bland then I added 14 oz. canned tomatoes which picked up the flavour somewhat and when serving topped with shredded parmesan cheese. Would make again with tomatoes also would use an extra can of beans but red kidney beans to add to the flavour.

Loved it, though I did not have time to cook in slow cooker, so I put on stove and cooked about 3 hours on low heat. Served with cornbread. delicious

I thought this recipe was perfect as is. The only thing did different was I added a little more veggies. This soup is awesome.....we make it all the time....some good homemade Italian bread goes great with this and a salad too!

We loved this recipe. We made a few minor changes to the recipe. I created a blonde colored rue to thicken the soup base, a little went a long way. I added a can of Cheese Soup, 1/2 cup milk and two beaten eggs. I also added about 4 green onions, chopped at the same time I added the chopped fresh parsley. It was a huge hit... delicious, hearty, healthy and very colorful! I will totally make this again and again...

We love this recipie, we make it several times a year but mostly at Sukkot. I substitute the ham for skinless beef sausage (Winn Dixie brand as it has that saugsage flavor the best) and double up everything on the recipie (we have a large family). Set it in the crock pot and serve it over rice. It goes farther and it is absolutely delicious. By far my favorite.

I followed this recipe with only one deviation...I didn't have canned beans, so I added some cooked dried beans. I guess I was just hoping for a more flavorful soup. After reading some of the previous reviews I guess my expectations might have been too high. It was very easy to put together, but I just found it to be a little bland and boring. I don't think I'll make it again. =(

This was really good. Great for using leftover ham from the holidays. Mine didn't have a lot of broth in it so I had to add more then what the recipe suggested. But it was really good! Really good with a big piece of Italian bread and dunk it in! YUM

Absolutlely one of the best soups I have ever made. I used Idaho potatos instead of red potatos and my dtr made Bisquick drop biscuits to go along. Delish! this is a KEEPER!

This soup is a home run! My wife loved it too! It was very easy to make. There were a few deviations I made from the original recipe. I used four cans of beans instead of two and added a third cup of potatoes. With the two cups of ham, I found no need to add 1/2 teaspoon of salt. A nice touch would be to add garlic toast or biscuits on the side.

Great recipe. The picture is misleading though, it doesn't have nearly that many beans! I agree with the previous rater - - add more beans. Next time I will make it with at least 4 cans.

Great tasting - - just needs more beans to make it a "bean soup". Add 3 or 4 cans of beans instead of 2.

I replaced the red potatoes with Sweet potatoes (to increase nutritional value) and chopped onion with a can of roasted garlic chopped tomatoes. I also use cilantro instead of parsley and left out the oil. I was able to serve it to my health conscious friends with no guilt and my soup-hating husband even asked for seconds!
