I made these cookies replacing the Wheaties with the crumbs from a bag of Frosted Mini Wheat cereal. They were delicious.....

I haven't made these "Ranger Cookies" but there is also a Ranger Cookie Recipe in the large Betty Crocker cookbook. You use coconut, rolled oats and raisins. My son is an avid high adventure hiker - means he needs to pack very light for extended trips. Anyway he and my husband always request Ranger Cookies. They are hardy and are great for energy on the go. I will have to try this version but don't know that I will be able to call them ranger cookies. Feel free to message for the recipe.

This is the third week in a row that I'm trying a new ranger cookie recipe and this is the winner!! I used rice krispie cereal in place of the wheat flakes, white flour for whole wheat, light brown sugar (because I ran out of dark brown) and walnuts for peanuts (again because I didn't have any!) I'm glad to hear they pack and travel over seas well - thanks for sharing that perkup808! I am going to make them for a fourth week and send to my brother who is serving in Afganistan (after I restock my kitchen!!)

I am going to make these later today. I can't wait to try them. I wanted to reply to Diannajim's comment also. I served in Iraq and my mama H always sent me cookies she would put them in a food saver bag and they turned out great. They were so good I barely got to eat any cause everyone always raided my package before I did. So please remember to send alot because everyone will want some.

These are the best cookies ever. No fuss to make. I took some to work two days in a row. On the third day everybody was asking me, "where are the cookies". They are hearty and if you are running late for lunch, have one of these and it will hold your hunger awhile. My mother doesn't eat sweets of any kind and she asked me for the recipe. I'm going to find out how to pack and mail them so I can send some to my friends son who is in Iraq for the third time. Try them, you won't be sorry.
