Ingredients

Sausage

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 5 bratwurst sausages (from 19-oz package)

Beer Maple Syrup

  • 1/4 cup pumpkin beer
  • 1/2 cup real maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Waffles

  • 2 1/3 cups Original Bisquick™ mix
  • 1 bottle (12 oz) pumpkin beer (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 1 egg

Steps

  • 1
In 10-inch skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Add sausage; cook about 10 minutes, turning once, until golden brown and thoroughly cooked. Cut into round slices; set aside.
  • 2
Meanwhile, in 1-quart saucepan, heat 1/4 cup beer to a simmer over medium heat. Add 1/2 cup maple syrup and the butter; cook until butter is melted. Keep warm.
  • 3
To make waffles, heat waffle maker; grease with cooking spray, vegetable oil or shortening. In large bowl, beat all Waffle ingredients with whisk or egg beater until blended. Pour batter onto center of hot greased waffle maker; close lid.
  • 4
Bake about 5 minutes or until steaming stops and waffle is golden brown. Carefully remove waffle. Repeat with remaining batter.
  • 5
To serve, cut waffles in half; stack 3 waffle-halves on each individual plate. Top with sausage and syrup.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Use root beer for an alcohol-free version.
  • tip 2
When choosing the beer, choose beer that is on the lighter side. A pumpkin ale or wheat beer works well.
