I made this cake for Thanksgiving, and my family and I loved it. In fact, I am making it for work and for another Christmas party. I followed the instructions, except for I did spray the non-stick heavy duty cake pans with Pam. I ran a knife around the edges before inverting the cakes onto a plate, which I believe helped the praline from sticking. A couple edges did fall off, and I stuck 'em back on with the frosting. I frosted the entire cake with homemade cream cheese frosting and covered the perimeter with a two-inch strip of crushed pecans--then drizzled the caramel on the top, down the sides. Lushiness!

Listen up all you GLUTEN FREE folks. Made this with B/C gluten free boxed cake mix as directed on box, added about 1/4 cup pumpkin, a generous shake of pumpkin pie spice, sprayed a 9x9 inch cake pan with Pam and baked as directed on package thus eliminating the water, oil and eggs that are in the original directions. Made all of the praline mixture but did not use it all but most of it. Used the canned cream cheese frosting & added a goodly amt of PP spice to it. Bake as directed on pkg for this size cake, let is cool for the suggested hour, inverted it onto a cake plate and just let it sit there and it fell right out. I was concerned about all the "goo" sticking to the bottom but inverting it took all the worry away. Had no problem with it "oozing" over the top of the pan. Easy to make this way even if it is a little decadent but oh so yummy!

The only thing that should be changed on this recipe is that you MUST grease the pan! Otherwise, it's perfect!

This is a great cake! I made it in a bundt pan which only required half of the praline recipe. After it cooled, I drizzled melted cream cheese frosting over the pralines. So good!

So irritating! The darn cake fell apart when I put it together AND I made sure it was cool (I cooled it for 2 hours). Waste of time. I will not be making this cake again.

meliberg - Baking pans can sometimes make a difference in how the yummy goo sticks to the pan. Next time you bake this cake, you might try one less minute before inverting the pans. If the goo still sticks to the pan, just take a rubber scraper and top the layers. This is where you as the baker can love having the last spoonful of goo :-)

Took my cake out of the oven a bit ago. The layers came out clean and intact but quite a bit of the delicious praline "goo" stayed in the bottom of the pan. Is that normal?

My husband's work has seasonal cooking competitions for the employees. They always have a theme to follow. Last year's was pumpkin. Well, I NEVER cook with pumpkin, so I did an internet seach and found this recipe. Well, the cake won first prize - a $75 gift card to a local grocery card. The president of the bank was a judge, and he like it so much, his wife asked my husband if I would make one for their Thanksgiving dinner. I agreed, especially since it's so easy to make. I delivered the cake, and she gave me a $25 spa gift card since I told her I woudn't take money for the cake. I also made one for my own family for Thanskgiving dinner. They "gobbled" every bite. I'll be making it again this year and next year and next year, too!
