The "green in the middle" is green peppers. See the expert tip: "Add slices of green bell pepper or tomato to this hearty sandwich."

Will TRY this recipe in my Panini cooker, but what is the green stuff that shows inside the sandwich in the picture. Is it pickles or lettuce? I have never used lettuce inside a sandwich when using the panini pan, and lettuce nor pickles show in the recipe. Should I just go merrily along with the recipe and ignore the fact that I think I see Green something in the middle of the sandwich. Would like a hint before I try. I do have all of the ingredients in the fridge including lettuce. So whatever words of help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks...dotc4th
