Ingredients

  • 3 ripe Anjou pears, peeled, diced
  • 2 sweet cooking apples, peeled, diced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (1 medium)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup water

Steps

  • 1
In 3-quart saucepan, mix pears, apples, lemon juice and honey until well combined. Stir in water.
  • 2
Cover; heat to boiling over medium heat. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring occasionally, 20 minutes.
  • 3
Uncover; mash pears and apples with potato masher; stir well. Continue cooking, uncovered, about 10 minutes longer or until most of water has evaporated. Cool slightly before serving. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

  • Too determine if an Anjou pear is ripe, press gently at the top of the pear near the stem. If it yields and springs back, it’s ready to eat.
  • Cut the apples last so that they have the least chance of browning.
