Ingredients

  • 4 unsalted rice cakes, about 3 inches in diameter
  • About 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • Birdseed
  • About 3 tablespoons jelly or peanut butter
  • 1 length of twine (2 feet)
  • Dried cranberries (from 6-oz package) or orange slice
  • 1 length of floral wire (1 foot)
  • Ribbon (6 to 12 inches), if desired

Steps

  • 1
Using a skewer, poke a hole in the middle of each rice cake. Spread peanut butter over 2 rice cakes. Top with other 2 rice cakes to make 2 sandwiches.
  • 2
Spread birdseed on cookie sheet. Spread jelly on edges of each sandwich; roll in birdseed until edges are completely covered.
  • 3
Tie a double knot about 6 inches from one end of twine. Thread sandwich, through center hole, on other end of twine. Tie another double knot in twine about 6 inches from sandwich. Thread on second sandwich. Tie a loop in top end of twine to allow bird feeder to hang.
  • 4
Thread cranberries on floral wire, leaving 1 inch of bare wire on each end. Twist ends together to form a circle; form into a heart shape. Tie cranberry heart or orange slice to bottom end of twine. Tie ribbon around twine into bow.
