The instructions for making this in the oven are: Pre-heat oven to 250, bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

My mother used to make this when I was growing up in the 50's. It was still called Chex Party Mix even back then. My mother never baked it. She stirred it all up in a frying pan. It was great! I lost the recipe until now. Thanks Betty Crocker for bringing back a wonderful childhood treat.

I would also like to know where you have found the GF Rice Krispies???Also, I wanted to cornifm that just because you do not have a reaction does not mean a food is safe to eat. I was diagnosed a year ago and was completely shocked. I never had stomach problems or any kind of reaction when I ate foods with gluten and still don't. Yet, they were damaging my small intestine. At my diagnosis I had almost NO villi left. I wanted to share this in hopes of helping other Celiacs understand the importance of reading labels of every single food item.Leslie

@Dawn, its called original chex party mix because it uses the cereal "Original Chex", hence the trade mark sign. But thank you for giving me a good afternoon laugh. This recipe was great, I added a little tabasco sauce to it as well :) thanks!

It irritates me that this is called Original Chex Party Mix, as it is a misnomer! There were no microwaves when the original recipe came out. There was no such thing as Bagel Bites to purchase. My Grandmother was a bit of a rebel and she included Cheerios in the mix, which I still do today before baking huge batches in the oven, not the microwave.

I've been making this recipe for awhile - and now the family has asked for more seasoning in the mix....can I just double the spices? Do you know if that would work?

This is not the orignal mix receipe -- no bagle chips only cereal, peanuts and pretzels. I have changed some of the seasoning by usng liquid smoke and lemon juice as well as adding a little hot pepper or tobasco sauce. Smoked black pepper also works for a little spice. Anyway, it all must be good because it never lasts more than a few days if we h ave guests.

My favorite things in chex mix are the cereal and rye chips. Thats the only two ingredients I use in mine. And I do bake them and add extra garlic! Yummy!!!!
