Ingredients

package (8 oz) chopped dates (1 1/2 cups)
1 3/4
cups orange juice
1/3
cup packed brown sugar
1
cup coarsely chopped pecans
1
pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® oatmeal cookie mix
1/2
cup plus 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1/2
teaspoon powdered sugar

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray bottom and sides of 9-inch square baking pan. In medium saucepan, combine dates and orange juice. Cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in brown sugar; gently simmer an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in pecans. Set aside.
  • 2 In large bowl, stir cookie mix and melted butter with fork until mixture is crumbly. Press 2/3 of mixture into bottom of pan. Pour date mixture over crust in pan. Sprinkle with remaining cookie mixture.
  • 3 Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool completely, about 2 hours. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. For bars, cut into 5 rows by 4 rows. Store covered at room temperature.

I made them last week, they are terrific, next time i will try with only 1 cup of orange juice and 3/4 cup of water . I always make they old fashion recipe, will try it with different fruits instead. but it's a keeper. Thank you Betty crocker

Your recipe sounds wonderful, as usual. I am not a big fan of dates, so I intend to substitute dried apricots. I think most other dried fruits such as raisins, cherries, or cranberries would work well in this recipe. Can't wait to try it!
