Really got my hopes up when I saw this one. I've been looking for a good whole wheat bread recipe for a very long time. This should be called Wheat Bread NOT Whole Wheat Bread. How can it be when half of it is refined flour?!

Great! I made this bread but added flax seed and walnuts and it turned out so very yummy. I really liked the taste of honey since I used white sugar in the past.

I haven't made bread in years so was a little nervous...but this turned out perfect, slightly moist and sweet, nice sized tender crumb, easy to slice. A nice light whole wheat flavor.

This was my first attempt at bread making in years and it turned out very well. I used a fabulous machine called an AEG Assistant. If you are a serious bread-maker this is a terrific mixer. Since I bought mine I have seen several listed on Ebay. Well worth the money. The bread is awesome. Love that it is whole wheat since we are trying to be health concious. My husband would rather have this for dessert than sweets!

This recipe was excellent! I didn't have shortening so I used margarine as a substitute & it was perfect. Very easy, even for a beginner! I will definitely make this again.

Excellent for beginners! I've never made homemade bread before this, and was quite nervous. It took a few tries to get the folding/pinching down pat, but now I'm a "pro"! I make this recipe once or twice a week...so much so that I've got the recipe memorized. My kids absolutely love this bread and beg for a piece right out of the oven (with butter on it). I also use it to make PB&J sandwiches, which they have almost daily. The loaves freeze well, so you can always have fresh bread on hand! I'll never buy store bought bread again! (I agree with the PPs that the honey taste is lost, but I don't miss it. I would venture to say you could add more honey to increase the intensity, though I'm not sure how that would effect the over all cooking process.)

this is great as toast! okay as bread but a slice right out of the toaster with a bit of butter, honey or, honey-butter on it - heaven! The hard copy B C cookbook has a low salt version which is excellent also... As follows: Decrease honey to 1/4 cup (i din't decrease honey and it's fine)and decrease salt to 1 teaspoon. Substitute vegetable oil for shortening. Rising time may be 10 min. shorter . I'll have mine toasted!

This is the BEST bread and the easiest for a beginner. I like the use of honey instead of sugar. Plus I have used whole wheat white instead of all purpose flour and it still turns out great however I only use 3-3 1/2 cups. I only bake it at 350 for 30 minutes and its moist and the shelf life at least for winter months has been excellant. I do use a kithen aid mixer but it has been almost the only bread I have found to be successful without getting frustrated ! I highly recommend this recipe....

I love this recipe! I have made it twice and I have to say that it is fairly easy compared to other homemade bread recipes. It makes beautiful loaves that are quite tasty.
