Mint-Cilantro Chutney

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped (3/4 cup)
  • 3/4 cup chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup lime juice, (2 medium limes)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium garlic cloves
  • 1 to 2 fresh Thai, serrano or cayenne chilies

    Place all ingredients in blender. Cover and blend on medium speed until smooth.

    Tightly cover and store in refrigerator up to 10 days.

  • Chutneys are a condiment that are sometimes fruit based and sweet and sometimes spicy and sharp. They are meant to be eaten in small bites to enhance the flavors of a milder dish.
  • This chutney is found served in major cities in the north and northwest areas of India.
