This is my first recipe review ever because I really felt these bars deserved one. :) These bars are an absolutely decadent summer treat. I followed the recipe without any variances (which is odd for me, I usually add my own twist to things) and they came out delicious. The only issue I was was removing them from the pan; the almond paste is dense and thus settles at the bottom of the pan, resulting in a chunky mess when trying to remove. When I make these in the future, and I will be making these again, I will be much more liberal with the cooking spray and will probably do a quick coating of flour as well for good measure. The only part of this recipe I would change is the amount of almond paste in these bars. A full 8 oz. of almond paste seems a little much for me and leaves the bars very very sweet, only allowing my guests and myself to eat tiny pieces. Using only 1/2 a can and still cutting into small pieces I think these will make the perfect compliment to a nice evening cup of coffee on the porch. I tried the bars at room temperature, and also tried refrigerating them for about an hour prior to serving and I have to say, the cold version is wonderful. Though at room temperature they are still delicious, the cold really makes the flavor of the berries pop! I hope everyone tries this recipe, happy baking!
