Ingredients

  • Artificial round pine wreath, 30 inches in diameter
  • Wire cutter
  • 8 dogwood sticks, 9 inches long
  • 2 or 3 pieces florist wire, 16 inches long
  • Pliers
  • Hot-glue gun with glue sticks
  • 5 old-fashioned ornaments
  • 1 3/4 yards decorative ribbon, 2 1/2 inches wide
  • Decorative door hanger, if desired

Steps

  • 1
Shape wreath into tree (triangle) shape. (If wreath is difficult to shape easily by hand, try this method: Using a wire cutter, divide the circular wired form on the back of the wreath into 3 equal parts. Make one cut each in the inner and center wire form to make bending into shape easier; shape into tree -triangle- shape.)
  • 2
Group dogwood sticks tightly together in a bunch; wrap 1 piece of the florist wire around sticks to secure and twist wire tightly with pliers. Glue dogwood sticks to bottom center of tree to create trunk. Decorate wreath with ornaments.
  • 3
Make a bow with ribbon; tie with another piece of florist wire. Attach bow to bottom of tree, just above the trunk. Use decorative door hanger to hang wreath from door. If hanging wreath on wall, make loop with third piece of florist wire and attach to back of wreath.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

So many ornaments are designed by themes now that creating customized wreaths is a cinch! For the lake home or cabin, pick bears, moose, canoes, pine trees and fishing tackle ornaments. Or for seaside homes, there are shells, lighthouses, boats and fishing net. Dare to decorate!
