LOCATION

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. Grease 2-quart casserole with shortening. In 4-quart Dutch oven, mix granulated sugar and cornstarch. Add berries and lemon juice; toss until evenly coated. Heat to boiling. Boil 3 to 5 minutes (7 to 10 minutes for frozen berries), stirring constantly, until slightly thickened. Spoon into casserole.
  • 2 In large bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Cut in butter, using pastry blender or crisscrossing 2 knives, until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in enough hot water until mixture forms a soft dough. Drop dough by tablespoonfuls onto berry mixture.
  • 3 Bake cobbler 25 to 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown. Serve warm with whipped cream.

This is delicious! The cobbler part is very moist, light and fluffy and has great flavor. Made it for a couple friends and they both loved it!

I used this recipe and substituted 4 c. fresh tart cherries for the 6 c. berries and used 4 drops of almond extract instead of the nutmeg. I put the extract in with the cherries, sugar and corn starch. The group I served this to raved about it so therefore my rating. Enjoy!

I like to cook but when it comes right down to it, baking seems too difficult to make happen unless it''s for a ''special'' occasion. This recipe was so easy I''m actually going to do it again. I like to have friends and family over for during the holidays for quick and simple gatherings. Cobbler and ice cream along with coffee or tea after work hits the spot. Any one can make this recipe and its a great change from cookies and cakes. Have fun and just try it.
