Maple-Glazed Walnuts

Give pretty holiday containers filled with easy-to-make walnuts roasted with sweet-spicy coating.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons maple flavor
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 2 cups walnut halves and pieces

Steps

    Heat oven to 325°F. Line cookie sheet with foil; spray foil with nonstick cooking spray. In medium bowl, combine all ingredients except walnuts; mix well. Add walnuts; toss to coat. Spread on sprayed foil-lined cookie sheet, separating nuts with fork.

    Bake at 325°F. for 17 to 22 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, or until glaze thickens and adheres to nuts. Watch during last 5 minutes of baking to prevent burning. Place nuts on waxed paper. Cool 10 minutes or until completely cooled. Break apart.

    Remove the walnuts from the oven only after they have turned a deep golden brown. Underbaked walnuts may become sticky when they cool. If necessary, bake these sticky walnuts for a few more minutes.
