I pride myself in being a fairly good baker and looked forward to sharing these Malted Milk Ball Cupcakes with my co-workers. They love my cupcakes and were looking forward to tasting them today. NOT! The flavor was good but the texture was terrible. I baked two different batches thinking perhaps I had done something wrong. The cupcake papers were hard to remove without the cake sticking to them. So, I had the expense, the mess and the disappointment of having nothing to share on this day when so many were looking forward to a treat. I'm sorry to have to write a bad review but wanted to share my experience with this recipe. ~Mona

This is in response to a previous comment. The reason yours turned out brown I am willing to bet is you probably used chocolate flavored malted milk powder. It comes in plain or chocolate. The only way yours would have turned out brown was using chocolate flavored instead of plain.

Fantastic! I made these for a bake sale & they were the hit of the day. Caution; wait until just before serving/wrapping to put the malted milk balls on. Otherwise they sort of dissentigrate.

My cupcakes were brown not yellow. Once you put the malt powder in, it turns brown. I''m not sure how the picture on the recipe didn''t. Also, the Malt balls on top were delicious. I used my Pampered Chef Chopper and chopped mine a lot smaller than the picture. Everyone loved them one top. I would recommend using the cupcakes the day you make is because the candy on top goes kind of soft mushy. Not so yummy. Also, I made a batch of the normal size cupcakes and a batch of the mini cupcakes. One recipe was used. I will make this again however. . we loved it!

I would have to say this recipe was ok. Reason being, the malted milkballs add too much of a cruch. Now, they are a pretty decoration, but they are really not nessisary to eat in one bite. My solution, take them off and save them for after the cup cake!
