Ingredients

  • 2 lb extra-lean (at least 90%) ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 6 cubes (1 inch) American cheese (about 4 oz)
  • 1/4 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 1 box (4.9 oz) Betty Crocker™ Ultimate loaded mashed potatoes
  • Water, butter and milk called for on potato mix box
  • 1 pouch Cheese Sauce (from potato mix box)
  • 6 tablespoons sour cream
  • 3/4 cup French-fried onions

Steps

  • 1
Heat gas or charcoal grill. In large bowl, mix beef, Worcestershire sauce and garlic salt. Shape mixture into 12 thin patties, about 4 inches in diameter. Place cheese cube on 6 of the patties; top each with bacon. Top each with 1 remaining patty; press edges to seal.
  • 2
Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 12 to 15 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F.
  • 3
Make mashed potatoes as directed on box, using water, butter, milk and Cheese Sauce pouch. Top each burger with sour cream and onions. Serve with mashed potatoes.

Tips from the Betty Crocker Kitchens

  • tip 1
Kick up the spice a notch by using pepper Jack cheese instead of American.
  • tip 2
To save some time, look for precooked bacon near the luncheon meat section at the grocery store.
