One way to make this even better than it is: Mix 1/3 Cup sugar with the zest of 1 lemon. Toss the almond slices with this mixture and set aside while you prepare the mix. Then add this on top and bake. It won't need the frosting.

Easy and delicious; no frosting necessary, so I never bother. It's great with ice cream and fruit.

I love this recipe! I actually enhance it by putting almonds in the batter AND on top. I also use milk instead of water. I think it makes it come out even better. This is highly recommended for a small get together or for breakfast for the family!

I made this last year for company and it was a big hit. Since then I have made it for brunchs and book clubs and not one person has walked away from it without great reviews. I love that I can throw it together so quickly for unexpected company.

I tested this with my Garden club an dreceived rave reviews. Not too sweet and those whose love poppy seed and lemon were begging me for the recipe. I did however, substitute walnuts because I had some fresh delivered from my dear brother-in-law from a CA walnut grove and had no almonds at the time. This recipe was requuested by approx. five of the members present at the Lemon Bay Garden Club meeting for April.

This cake was so good and so easy to make. It was really moist. For all you lemon lovers this one is for you. I didn''t have almonds, so I used chopped walnuts instead.
