Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Line 2 (8-inch or 9-inch) round cake pans with foil; grease bottoms only with shortening or cooking spray.
  • 2 Make brownie batter as directed on box. Divide batter evenly between pans.
  • 3 Bake 24 to 26 minutes or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely.
  • 4 Lift foil and brownie from pan; carefully remove foil. Cut 1 round as shown in diagram. Arrange uncut round and the pieces, top sides down, on large tray or foil-covered cardboard, 18x12 inches, to form cat. Frost cat, attaching pieces with small amount of frosting.
  • 5 Cut thin slice from bottom of each yellow gumdrop; use slices for eyes. Cut thin slice from green gumdrop; use to make pupils. Use black gumdrop for nose and shoestring licorice for whiskers, mouth and from paws. Attach 3 candy corn on each paw for claws. Store loosely covered.

EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

A parent or older sibling may have to cut the pieces, but even the youngest family member can help add the whiskers and the candy-corn feet.

Can’t find black shoestring licorice or candy corn? Use Betty Crocker black decorating gel for the licorice; look for it near the cake and frosting items in your grocery store. For the claws, cut strips of Fruit Roll-Ups® chewy fruit snack rolls.

Don’t be afraid. It’s easy to turn this kitty cat into the scariest Halloween cat on the block!

This is the best halloween party recipie! I was looking for something ''spooky'' to bake for my toddlers first big Halloween party, and stumbled across this. We used the chocolate chunk brownie recipie which left me wanting to find ''extra'' pieces I could shave off the design to taste test! The finished product was so simple to create and a huge hit!

I think this is a very clever idea, and it is also very easy for my children to assemble. They are 10 and 12, and they love to be in the kitchen as much as I do. Thanks for making our life a little less complicated with this easy recipe.

I made this cake for a party, everyone loved it. Just be careful cutting out the tail, it fell apart for me, but have no fear, use the frosting to keep it together. Also, make sure you have a big enough pan to hold it when your finished. It will sure to be a hit!
