I made this tonight for a bridal shower, both the bride and groom love bourbon so I thought this would be great and I should have made a double batch because it was incredible! I stuck to the recipe except I used peppered bacon which added a nice kick in addition to the chipotle. Next time I might add a bit more bourbon because the flavor was not quite strong enough for me, but being from Kentucky it never is!

Made a second batch and I doubled the recipe for a picnic this weekend. This time I used 1/2 cup butter and then poured in the bacon drippings. I used 1/2 cup maple syrup instead of the corn syrup, 2 tsp chipolte chili but only 3 Tbl of the bourbon. It turned out gooey with a bit more zing. I like it much better this way. My husband is still not sure. (But he sure ate a ton of it while I was trying to bag it for the picnic.)

Just got done making this for a weekend gathering. I had read the reviews and ramped up the bacon by putting a whole pound in. Glad I did as it needed more salt. It's not bad but I don't know that it's great either. I did use maple syrup instead of the corn syrup as suggested. I would definitely go that route again. I am wondering if using some of the bacon drippings instead of the butter might give it more of the bacon flavor that is needed...

This recipe is a definite keeper. Made it and packaged it for Christmas gifts, and there was only one problem.....everyone wanted more!

I made this for the superbowl party and it was a huge hit. I did find that the bacon didn't really make a difference. I'm not sure if my friends agree or not, but I didn't even know it was in the mix. It was worth making and not much trouble. I'll make it again.

Also made this recipe for Super Bowl 2012 & it was a hit at the party. I used real bacon bits which are already cooked & crumbled, like what you would use on a salad. No premade Chex Mix on hand so I made Chex Mix traditional version from scratch. This is definately a keeper recipe & will be passing the recipe around to friends who could not come.

I tried this recipe on Super Bowl Sunday this year. It was a big hit. Went fast. I also used precooked bacon to save on the mess. I just microwaved it for the time suggested. For the reader who wanted to know if you can leave it out or refrig. it, you must refrig due to the bacon. The directions say to cool and put in the refrig. I missed that at first also. Good luck.

This is going in my permanent recipe file...it's that good! I used real maple syrup in lieu of corn syrup (because that's what I had) and substituted pre-cooked real bacon bits rather than cooking fresh. I contend that the maple syrup is better than corn because it adds another flavor layer and complements the bourbon beautifully. This stuff is AMAZING!

can this be left out or does it need to be stored cold?
