This is a good recipe. Regarding the previous comments, if you are vegetarian you can easily adapt this recipe for your needs, as I can adapt vegetarian recipes to include meat. And for the comment before mine, I am Thai and there is a plethora of "Thai" recipes that aren't true to real Thai ingredients and preparation. This is because the recipes are simply meant to taste Thai, like this one is meant to taste Jamaican. I don't take offense because it means people are being creative in trying to make Thai dishes - they like Thai (or in this case Jamaican) cuisine so they use easier, more familiar ingredients and cooking methods. It's nothing against Jamaican food. If you are a fan of spice and beans this soup is great! I add some extra cayenne for kick. Cheers!

Why bother looking for vegetarian refried beans if you are putting ham in the soup? Get this out of the 'meatless main dish' section.

This was a delicious recipe. I really liked the consistency the refried beans gave the soup. Next time I am planning on using half as much corn and lime juice.
