Italian Tomato-Beef Sauce

pound lean ground beef

tablespoons olive or vegetable oil

large onions, chopped (2 cups)

medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
3
large garlic cloves, finely chopped

can (28 oz) Progresso™ diced tomatoes, undrained
2
cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce

tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves or 2 teaspoons dried basil leaves

tablespoon chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves

teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon fennel seed
1/4
teaspoon pepper

  • 1 Cook ground beef in 3-quart saucepan over medium heat about 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until brown; drain. Heat oil in same saucepan over medium heat. Cook onions, bell pepper and garlic in oil 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling; reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 45 minutes.
