Italian Sausage Herb Dressing

Herbs add a wonderful flavor to this delicious Italian stuffing made using pork sausage, bread and veggies. A perfect side dish recipe.

Ingredients

lb bulk Italian pork sausage
1/2
cup butter or margarine
2
medium red onions, finely chopped (2 cups)
5
stalks celery, chopped (2 cups)
4
cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/4
cup chopped fresh parsley
2
tablespoons finely chopped fresh sage leaves
1
tablespoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
6
cups dry bread cubes (about 8 slices bread) or herb-seasoned stuffing cubes

teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon pepper
1
cup Progresso™ chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
1
egg, slightly beaten

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • 2 In 12-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink; drain. Remove sausage to large bowl; set aside. In same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onion, celery and garlic in butter 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender. Stir in parsley, sage and thyme.
  • 3 Add vegetable mixture, bread cubes, salt and pepper to sausage in bowl. In small bowl, stir together broth and egg until combined; add to bread mixture, stirring until blended. Spoon into baking dish.
  • 4 Cover; bake 20 minutes. Uncover; bake 8 to 10 minutes longer or until golden brown.
