WOW! I made last weekend for a birthday celebration. Would not change a thing! Simple recipe, but looks like you pulled the cake out of an upscale bakery box! When it was done and in the refridgerator, I kept opening the door and looking at it cause I was so impressed with myself, haha! Will make this cake again and again : )

CAKE: Turned out great. Super moist, chocolatey and yummy. I would add the liquor, sour cream and pudding to just about any cake I think. FROSTING: Way too sweet for me. Obviously everyone has their own flavor preferences but I ended up adding in the whole bar of cream cheese simply because 3 cups of the sugar was way too much. With the full bar of cream cheese it turned out pretty close to perfect, but maybe still a little too sweet. My suggestion is tasting after you add in a cup, 2 cups, etc. It was just way way too sweet. GLAZE: You definitely don't have to use bittersweet and corn syrup. Using semi sweet chocolate chips instead of the two works fine. It does add a little much in combination with the frosting and chocolate inside, but hey, it looks really pretty.

I made this cake over the weekend . Instead of 2 layers of chocolate I made an additional layer of white using same recipe. This was the best cake ever. Just use the extra white for cupcakes. Modified the frosting recipe to have enough to frost the three layers and cupcakes. Even had enough chocolate topping to cover the cupcakes - absolutely luscious! This recipe is a winner hands down. Just don't think about the calories

Just made this for St. Patrick's Day and everyone loved it! And it was easy to do, tasted great and looked even better. I made an easire ganache by heating heavy cream and pouring over choco. chips until melted. I am going to try this with other flavors as recommended. Great Cake!

I'm not much of a baker, but made this to go with St.Patty's day dinner. It was a HUGE hit....I thought it would be difficult or complicated, but it was not at all. The family has already asked for it again!! **one reviewer mentioned making 1 1/2 times the icing...I will do that next time as we like lots of icing, and the icing was fabulous!!

I just made this today as a suitable end to our St. Patrick's Day meal. It was a good cake, but I can't say I would rave about it as much as some other reviewers have. Some may find it more "labor intensive" than other desserts they've made, but it really is not difficult at all. My pans are 8 1/2" (oddly enough) so I did not have a problem with any of the batter flowing over. It did puff up to some extent, but that went away before I even took the layers out of the oven. They settled even more after that. I had no problem at all getting the cakes out of the pan after they had cooled ten minutes; that is likely because I prefer to use the method for preparing the pan for baking that I've always used - a thin layer of shortening and a light dusting of flour. I've never had a problem getting a cake out of a pan using that method. Other than that, I made no changes to the recipe so that my review would be based simply on the recipe given. The only bittersweet baking chocolate I found in the store in my area was by Ghiradelli, which is a good chocolate, but I was surprised there was no bittersweet by Baker's or any other supplier. The only change I might make if I ever bake this cake again would be perhaps to try a different liqueur I might like more.
