For a simple chocolaty dessert that serves eight, this is a super selection—only 15 minutes to put together!

This is the easiest cake in the world to make. In fact I've been making it since I was 5. just remember NOT to add any liquid to the flour mixture, all liquid goes in the pudding mixture except the boiling water, the dry ingredients are just sprinkled on top of pudding and then just pour the water over all and put in the oven. It's perfect every time.

Definitely something wrong w/ the measurements in this recipe. The cake ingredients were way too dry & needed about the twice the amount of milk in order to make a stiff batter. Other than adding more milk, we followed the recipe precisely & cooked it in a 9" round pan as directed. It overflowed all over the oven. The finished product had little "pudding" or moisture left in it -- I had to scrape it off the oven. I love good pudding cake ... this one is lousy.

I made this cake last night. I was not impressed at all. I think it lacked sweetness and chocolate. Will not make again.

I have looked everywhere for this recipe. My mom had this recipe and taught me how to make it before she passed away over 5 years ago. This is a easy cake that is delicious. Thank you for publishing it here. I had lost the recipe she gave me. Now I can make it and remember her.

I used to have a copy of the 1950 cookbook for kids version of this recipe for this that uses brown sugar and adds chopped nuts. It is better that this one. This one isnt bad, but this one is ok. I like desserts that are mild and don't kick you in the tastebuds with alot sugar.

Very good with vanilla ice cream, but not very good alone.

For a little holiday twist try using egg nog ice cream, or put crushed peppermint star mints as a little garnish. You can also use all kinds of different flavor ice creams and make it your own creation. Also, for Extra chocolicity, throw in a handful of dark chocolate chips!

The pudding did not have an over whelming chocolate taste, more sweet sugar, but it was quick and easy to put together.

I am NOT at one with my kitchen, but this recipe is so easy and tastes great! Hot water from the tap is fine. My mother made it for me as a child, and now I make it for my kids. Nothing like warm and chocolately as an after school treat. Want super chocolate? Use Special Dark cocoa powder. Almost TOO chocolately, if there is such a thing.....

This was the absolute easiest cake I've ever made! I'm not much of a cook so I was amazed that this was sooo delicious as well as easy. I believe it's impossible to fail. I'll make it often.
