  • PREP TIME 15 Min
  • TOTAL TIME 5 Hr 5 Min
  • SERVINGS 24

1
cup cayenne pepper sauce (hot sauce)
1
teaspoon garlic salt
24
chicken drummettes
2
tablespoons butter or margarine
1
cup Original Bisquick® mix
3/4
teaspoon onion salt
1/2
teaspoon pepper
1/4
teaspoon cayenne pepper
Blue cheese dressing
  • 1 Stir together hot sauce and garlic salt until blended. Pour over drummettes; cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours but no longer than 24 hours.
  • 2 Heat oven to 450ºF. Melt butter in jelly roll pan, 15 1/2x10 1/2x1 inch, in oven. Stir together Bisquick mix, onion salt and peppers. Remove chicken from sauce; discard sauce. Coat chicken with Bisquick mixture. Place in single layer in pan.
  • 3 Bake 25 minutes; turn and bake an additional 20 to 25 minutes or until chicken is golden brown and juice is no longer pink when centers of pieces are cut. Serve with dressing.

Expert Tips

Marinades add flavor and help tenderize meats and poultry. Letting chicken marinate more than 24 hours, though, would cause it to break down, resulting in mushy chicken with an overpowering flavor.

Coat jelly roll pan with aluminum foil before you melt the butter. When the wings are done, just throw away the foil—no dirty pan!

Ewwww... I love hot wings, but these didn't turn out the way I thought they would. They were soggy. Not a bit crispy. They burned on one side. Way too long in the oven at that temperature. The marinade was wonderful. Had I skipped the whole bisquick step and put them in the oven out of the marinade, they would have been great. Next time, I will not use the bisquick. I love bisquick, but in this case, not a good choice. I've been making hot wings for a long time and have always gotten great reviews. I thought I'd try something new, but it didn't quite work. I will say, though, this is the first Betty Crocker recipe that has failed me. I'll keep trying new recipes....just not this one.

I have made this recipe several times and it's always a hit at my house. There are never any leftovers. The wings are not too spicy -- just the right amount of heat. Plus, the Bisquick makes a nice crust. We love them!
