Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

can (6 oz) tomato paste
1/3
cup bourbon
2
tablespoons vinegar
1/3
cup packed light brown sugar
1
tablespoon molasses
1
teaspoon kosher (coarse) salt
1/2
teaspoon ground mustard
1/2
teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 In 1-quart saucepan, mix all ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with whisk, until mixture comes to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low; continue cooking and stirring until thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

For a version without alcohol, use water or chicken broth in place of the bourbon. You may need to adjust the seasonings.

This looks really good. It says it makes 20 servings. How much is an actual serving? I was thinking of making this for fathers day for all of the guys in my life.

I made this in a large batch and let the jars seal themselves when they cooled. I added a few more varieties of vinegar, and it turned out great.

I too would like to know if this Homemade Barbecue Sauce can be made in larger batches and Canned in my Hot water canner? It is similar to my from scratch mixture in some ways. I would love to have an email sent to me in reference to this. macriqui
