I have made this several times now and have tweaked it a bit. I cut up about a quarter pound of bacon and fry in the pot until crisp. I also add kelbasa sausage cut in small quarter size pieces. I fry all ingrediences intil well done. Then drain. I add the chicken broth, tomatoes, spices and let it simmer for about an hour (you really dont need to simmer at all). Right before I get ready to serve I add cut up shrimp. I serve with fried corned bread. YUMMM YUMMM

This was my first time for not only fixing gumbo but also eating gumbo. The prep time took alot longer than stated however it was GREAT!!!! Husband is from Louisiana and he loved it!!! Will definately make it again.
