This recipe goes back to my earliest ''cookie'' cookbooks: about 1962-63. I've made these since I was a young girl and they are still one of my favorite cookies. I am going to try the red and green sugars, just for fun this Christmas. These taste great with a cup of tea or coffee!

Cream of Tarter combined with baking soda reacts when the mixture is moistened to ensure that baked goods will rise well.

I've been making these every year for at least five years, I call them Christmasdoodles :) I make them year-round too for other holidays using pastel pink & purple for easter, green for St Pat's and pink or red for Valentine's Day. Who DOESN'T love snickerdoodles!?

Looks like an easy recipe to make. I will be adding this small change to my goodies this year! I make Snickerdoodles most years, but have never used red and green sugar before. Will try it ans see how it goes over with my friends and family.

This is a great recipe! I've been doing the red/green sugars at Christmastime for years and everyone loves it; a comment to the reviewer below me, "dotdash1", if you read the directions, you don't mix 1 tbsp cinnamon with 2 tbsp sugar; you mix 1-1/2 tsp of cinnamon with each of the 2 tbsp amounts of sugar... that makes a big difference in the coloring. :)
