This Betty's Best stew, loaded with beef and six kinds of vegetables, is certainly the best stew you'll ever bake.

We have served this twice now, it is very tasty, used the corn on the cob 'cause the wife doesn't like corn, so I just cut the corn off and it's great!

We tried this recipe in a slow cooker by adding 1.5 cups of beef broth and it turned out very well.

I love this stew! The only things I do differently are: add an extra can of diced tomatoes so all the ingredients are covered and nothing comes out dry. I also skip the corn cobs and use frozen whole kernel corn instead. I like using the Dutch Oven because it makes me feel like I've been cooking all day, yet I only have to check on it a few times. A few posters found the flavor to be bland, but I just add a little extra onion and garlic and found it to be quite tasty.

The stew was good but not worth 4 1/2 hours of stove energy and heat. It was nice that all the ingredients cook in one pot. However, I found the meat a little dry, the corn cobs a little clumsy to eat, not enough liquid in the recipe, and the flavor a bit bland. The next time I make it I will use extra liquid and add worcestshire or hot sauce. I might also start it on the stove top and move it to a crockpot to cook.

I added cubed butternut squash and turnips with the carrots: added great flavor! I also used the crock pot with great success. It's also good with hamburger meat in place of the stew meat, just brown it in the dutch oven and drain it before proceding with the recipe, or brown in a skillet if using the crock pot. Yummy with crusty bread and apple cider!

This beef stew was, unfortunately, not one of the best I've tasted. The zucchini wasn't done, and the flavor was wanting. When onions and beef aren't braised, it just isn't a great stew.

Everyone really liked this. Started it on stove and then after browning and mixing it together together moved it to crock-pot as I had to leave . Left it on H for three hrs. then low rest of time. It was so tender and delivered bowls to neighbors who all raved about it and asked for recipe. Made my day!
