Very good. We used ground beef as lamb is hard to come by in our grocery stores. Next time I will probably season the meat a little more. We also just browned the meat instead of making patties. I liked a previous reviewers suggestion to use flat bread instead of pita bread - worked well. Our son said this was a "keeper" : )

I used ground pork, and my own recipe for tzatzaki, and this came out very good. I chopped the patties into strips and served on pocketless pita. To give the taztzaki a little more kick (and make it more authentic), omit sugar, add a little lemon juice, a couple cloves crushed garlic, salt and pepper to taste, and a dash of cayenne.

I am a very big fan of gyros and I must say that I was very pleased with the recipe. I am originally from a city where ethnic foods were very easy to come by, but my career forced me to move to a very small town to where american and mexican food make up the majority. So I started to browse this site and actually just happened to stumble across the recipe and I had to try it. As with any recipe, you will adjust it according to your taste. Personally, I cannot stand pita pockets and it takes away from the traditional taste of the gyro. Flat pita bread, brushed with oil and heated in a frying pan will definitely make a difference in the taste. You can normally find these in the grocery store or Walmart. I also like to use sour cream instead of yogurt when making the sauce. Also like the other postings before, I actually didn''t care for the patties. When I made the patties, I actually cut them in the pan with the spatula into a few strips. But, I thank the person who posted this recipe. I do really like it and it tastes really good making them from scratch like this. And now I can have gyros whenever I want. Thanks!

This is a great meal idea. My children love it and so do my husband and I. I made it for a friends family one night and they loved it as well. Using beef instead of lamb works very well.

These were so good!!! I used ground turkey and didn''t make it into patties, just let people fill the pitas with it. It was really good! For the sauce, the mint is a little strong so I added some pepper too and lots of cucumber, yummy!

These gyros tasted EXACTLY like the ones I got when I was in Germany. They also tasted like the ones I bought at the Greek place in Pennslyvania. However, I found it easier to mix the yogurt mixture with the meat after the meat was cooked and I didn''t make it into patties but ground the meat instead. But either way it sure was good. This is a do again.
