Grilled Seasoned Pork Roast

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 boneless center-cut pork loin roast (3 lb)

    Heat gas or charcoal grill for indirect-heat cooking as directed by manufacturer. In small bowl, mix all ingredients except roast. Rub mixture onto all sides of roast. (Do not remove strings until after grilling.)

    Place roast, fat side up, on grill for indirect cooking. Cover grill; cook 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes or until meat thermometer inserted into thickest part of roast reads 160°F. Let roast stand 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.

  • When making pork roast on the grill, remember some pork suppliers inject pork roasts with a salt solution to increase shelf life and make the meat moist and flavorful. Read the package label and decrease the amount of salt in the rub if the meat you're using has been injected.
  • For grilled pork roast, save some money by buying in bulk! Most club stores sell whole (6- to 8-lb) pork loin roasts for much less per pound than you’d pay for pre-cut roasts or chops. If you have freezer space, buy a whole loin and cut it into 3-pound roasts, chops or smaller strips for stir-fry. Pat dry, wrap in plastic and place in a labeled freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Not sure how to grill using indirect heat? For two-burner gas grill, heat one burner to medium; place pork on unheated side. For one-burner gas grill, place pork on grill over low heat. For charcoal grill, move medium coals to edge of firebox; place pork on grill rack over drip pan.
