  • SERVINGS

    4

1
lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1/4
cup finely chopped onion
1/4
cup chopped fresh parsley
1/3
cup ranch dressing
1/4
teaspoon coarse ground pepper
4
slices (about 3/4 oz each) Cheddar or American cheese
4
whole-grain sandwich buns, split
12
dill pickle slices
  • 1 Heat closed medium-size contact grill for 5 minutes. In medium bowl, mix beef, onion, parsley, 3 tablespoons of the dressing and the pepper. Shape mixture into 4 patties, about 3/4 inch thick.
  • 2 Place patties on grill. Close grill. Grill 4 to 6 minutes or until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160ºF and patties are no longer pink in center. Top each patty with cheese slice. Let stand on grill about 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • 3 Spread remaining ranch dressing on cut sides of buns. Place cheese-topped patties and pickles in buns.

Expert Tips

To keep the ground beef from sticking to your hands when you are working with it, wet your hands before shaping the patties.

The burgers are perfect for year-round picnics! Just serve them with your favorite picnic side dishes--potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw and chips.

With a few modifications and additions, I cannot adequately describe how good this recipe is. I made these burgers with ground turkey instead of beef, and I substituted cilantro for the parsley. I topped them with a slice of colby jack, a slice of tomato, and some avocado. They were the most delectable burgers I've ever tasted - so tender and juicy, and absolutely bursting with flavor. This is now a regular item on my meal plan.
